Pleiotropy as a mechanism to stabilize cooperation
Article Abstract:
Studies reveal that pleiotropy can have an unexpected effect and benefit one of the most enigmatic of adaptations cooperation. It is observed that in aggregations containing the wild-type cells, lack of the dimA gene results in exclusion from spores.

In case of paper wasps st atus badge is a detectable indicator of rank that is related to a measure of competitive ability. Badges of status must necessarily be honest indicators, as a low-quality individual cannot adopt a symbol of high rank.
