Potential awareness of plants
Article Abstract:
Plants rely on electrical signalling between cells to secrete the proteinase inhibitors that protect against caterpillars and other herbivorous creatures. D.C. Wildon and colleagues experimented with young tomato plants and ascertained that leaves being eaten signal uneaten leaves to begin producing the inhibitors by electrical rather than chemical means. Specifically, damage to the cotyledon or seed leaf triggers the sending of an action potential to the undamaged leaves.

ATP-dependent glutathione S-conjugate 'export' pump in the vacuolar membrane of plants
Article Abstract:
Glutathione S-conjugate transport to plant vacuoles is mediated by an ATPase very similar to the glutathione S-conjugate export pumps in the canalicular membrane of mammalian livers. This clarifies the third phase of detoxification in plants, analogous to excretion in animals. Other ATPases similar to the multidrug-resistance protein may mediate detoxification in plants and animals alike.

Why plants emit isoprene
Article Abstract:
The production of isoprene in the leaves of most plants protects them from temperature fluctuations and depends on photosynthesis, temperature and availability of water. The rate of formation and emission of isoprene is high on hot and still days because in hot leaves isoprene is formed and lost rapidly.
