Practical considerations in the use of simultaneous inference for multiple tests
Article Abstract:
Simultaneous inference should be used in biological research when a large number of tests are required to determine the significance or probability of events. The approach aims to control experiment-wise and group-wise error rates of tests. Although there is no restriction as to the number of tests required before simultaneous inference can be conducted, the risk of type I error increases with the number of tests. However, cases which aim to test a common null hypotheses and require multiple statistical tests should not use simultaneous inference.

Policing and group cohesion when resources vary
Article Abstract:
Groups develop into cooperative units under low relatedness and limited opportunities, for strategic alliance needed for reciprocity. This occurs inspite of kin selection and reciprocal altruism responsible for group cohesion. A new theory proposes that low rather than high relatedness is conducive to the spread of policing traits. This theory is extended to include cooperative evolution, and range of costs and benefits related to competitive and cooperative traits present within groups.

Randomization tests and the equality of variance assumption when comparing group means
Article Abstract:
Randomization tests are often used when assumptions of more common inferential statistical procedures are violated. A set of Monte Carlo studies were used, based on the GAUSS program. The randomization test was valid when the groups had equal population variances, thus requiring no assumptions about distribution shape.
