Radon emanation and electric potential variations associated with transient deformation near reservoir lakes
Article Abstract:
Radon activity in the inner room in a dead-end tunnel situated 600 mt northeast of the Roselend dam in the French Alps is characterized by a low background level of 650 Bq m-3 and by several bursts with amplitudes of between 2,000 Bq m-3 and more than 18,000 Bq m-3 and lasting between one and nine weeks. The radon bursts with amplitudes of more than 4,000 Bq m-3 correlate systematically with falls in the RH-EO potential difference. The electric potential variations take place between four days before and one day after the radon bursts. There have been several other examples of an anelastic response to small changes in the loading rate in a natural system.

The Oak Ridge fault system and the 1994 Northridge earthquake
Article Abstract:
Geological studies on the 17 Jan 1994 Northridge earthquake in the San Fernando Valley in Southern California reveals that the footwall uplift on the Santa Susana fault before the earthquake indicates the Northridge blind thrust to be the active fault. The Northridge earthquake can be localized to the Oak Ridge fault system, which reaches the surface in the Ventura basin to the West.
