Reagents for the site-specific cleavage of megabase DNA
Article Abstract:
Oligonucleotide-controlled triple-helix formation furnishes a reagent for the sequence-specific detection of double-helical DNA and hence for chromosome mapping. The versatility and accuracy of this method for the cleavage of megabase DNA derives from its specific binding, from the wide range of sequences that it can focus on and on the high cleavage it can obtain. However, triple-helix formation works chiefly with purine tracts or with mixed sequences with purine and pyrimidine.

DNA correlations
Article Abstract:
Analysis of the completely sequenced Saccharomyces cerevisiae chromosome III confirms research by C. Peng that intron-containing gene sequences have long-range patterns or correlations of their nucleotide structure. The occurrences of purine/pyrimidine do not seem to be independent within clusters or regions. Though the cause of these correlations is unknown, they may be involved in the regulation and functioning of the genome.

Long-range correlations in DNA
Article Abstract:
Replication of research by C.-K. Peng and colleagues and R.F. Voss confirmed their general finding that the DNA sequences of different organisms can be extensively correlated. However, Peng and coworkers found that sequences of bases with an intron could be matched up while sequences without an intron could not be. Careful repetition of their procedures yielded no evidence that introns affect the ability to correlate sequences.
