Reduced parental care, compensatory behavior and reproductive costs of thick-billed murres equipped with data loggers
Article Abstract:
The effect of time-depth recorders (TDRs) on body mass and parental behavior of thick-billed murres, Uria lomvia and evaluation of the effect of TDRs as handicaps was investigated to test whether individuals compensate for decreased partner effort and whether compensation is sex biased. Findings suggest that compensatory behavior was a necessary response of the single-brooded species to ensure current breeding success, but might affect the stability of pair bonds in some individuals.

Offspring chemical cues affect maternal food provisioning in burrower bugs, Sehirus cinctus
Article Abstract:
The hypothesis that nymphs solicit maternal provisioning by condition-dependent chemical signaling and the existence of a solicitation pheromone is postulated. The result suggests complex communication in burrower bug families for the short-term regulation of maternal provisioning, potentially involving both provisioning-releasing solicitation pheromones and inhibiting chemical cues.
