Repellents to reduce cable gnawing by northern pocket gophers
Article Abstract:
Buried cable installations are at risk from wildlife. Capsaicin and denatonium benzoate have been evaluated using 'Indopol' carrier material and 'Vexar' mesh, to assess how effective they are in protecting communications cables from northern pocket gophers. These repellents do not appear to be effective if used as surface coatings, they are effective if used within electrical shrink tubing. The encasing procedure shows that the way the repellent agent is applied has a major impact on the effectiveness of the agent.

Effectiveness of 'Hot Sauce' and 'Deer Away' repellents for deterring elk browsing of aspen sprouts
Article Abstract:
Elk can cause damage to aspen sprouts, so repellents are used to deter them. A study has examined the effectiveness of 'Deer Away' and 'Hot Sauce Animal Repellent' during two time periods in the summer time. Both repellents are effective in deterring elk, and they are most effective in high concentrations. Both repellents can protect aspen from browsing for five weeks minimum whilst the aspen is growing. The usage of such repellemts on a large scale is, however, prohibitively expensive.
