Detection of the chemical signals of ovulation in the cotton-top tamarin, Saguinus oedipus
Article Abstract:
A study on the detection of olfactory chemical signals as a cue for ovulationin cotton-top tamarins was conducted. Results indicate that there is evidence of the ability of male cotton-top tamarins to discriminate olfactory cues of ovulation in females. This is exhibited by the increase in frequency of penile erection and mountings during the ovulation period. These findings degrade the theory of concealed ovulation affecting male sexual behavior.

Communication of ovulatory state to mates by female pygmy marmosets, Cebuella pygmaea
Article Abstract:
A study of the sexual behavior of pygmy marmosets revealed strong correlations between variations in the olfactory cues of females and the sexual behavior of the males of the species. This reveals that the reproductive states of the females is directly relayed to the males through cues such as lack of female aggression during their ovulatory periods.
