Article Abstract:
Compensation hypothesis (CH) states that when impediments to the expression of mate preferences occur so that reproduction is with nonpreferred (NP) partners, mothers with NP mates compensate for lower-viability offspring through enhanced investment. The test of compensation hypothesis (CH) reports that egg mass differ significantly by mother agemate category.

Virgin doves and mated hawks: Contest behaviour in a spider
Article Abstract:
A study on the male-male contests in the golden orb spider Nephila fenestrata where the potential for future reproduction is much lower in mated than virgin males is performed. The study reveals that the males typically mate with only one female in their lifetime and are subsequently sterile as a result of the damage to there mating organ.
