Sexual selection for increased male body size and protandry in a spider
Article Abstract:
The causes of sexual size dimorphism (SSD) in the web-building spider, Stegodyphus lineatus, are investigated. Large females are more fecund but the selection pressures on male body size are not clear. Large males did not have longer copulations, nor did they mate more successfully with virgin females than small males did.

Vibratory courtship in a web-building spider: signalling quality or stimulating the female?
Article Abstract:
The function of courtship behavior in spiders in the form of premating vibrations by males has been interpreted as species recognition, sexual arousal or inhibition of female predatory tendencies. No evidence was found in the male vibrating behavior to stimulate the nonreceptive females.
