Retinoic acid alters hindbrain Hox code and induces transformation of rhombomeres 2/3 into a 4/5 identity
Article Abstract:
The development of the hindbrain in fetuses is affected by retinoic acid, due to its influence on the expression of Hox genes. Experiments with transgenic mice show that the anatomical and molecular changes to the hindbrain and branchial region of the head are due to changes in the Hox code, induced by retinoic acid. These changes transform rhombomeres (r)2/3 homeotically to an r4/5 identity. The changes extend to several parts of the first branchial arch.

Fusion proteins of the retinoic acid receptor-alpha recruit histone deacetylase in promyelocytic leukaemia
Article Abstract:
Histone acetylene levels are linked to repressive chromatin conformation. RARs recuit histone and repress transcription without a ligand being present. Both PLZF-RAR alpha and PML-RAR alpha fusion proteins use the histione deacetylase complex. This recruitment is important in whether APL proteins have transforming potential. The way that APLs respond to RA is affected by the impact of RA on PLZF-RA alpha and PML-RAR co-repressor complexes.

Mice lacking factor VII develop normally but suffer fatal perinatal bleeding
Article Abstract:
Genetic research shows that mice born without factor VII (FVII) binding capabilities develop without deformity but die of fatal perinatal haemorrhaging from normal blood vessels. Evidence suggests that tissue factor-FVII-/-initiated fibrin formation is not critical to embryonic development but is involved in other embryonic development processes.
