Review could speed up German grants
Article Abstract:
There could be significant changes to the way in which funding for university research is allocated in Germany as a result of an external evaluation of Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG), the main funding body for university research, by 10 international experts. The evaluation will particularly look at DFG's grants system. Most German researchers seem to favour the fact that the scientific community elects DFG's around 500 referees every four years. However, they are concerned about the length of time it takes DFG to decide on grant applications.
