Citizen groups are attempting to introduce legislation that would combine Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument, the Barry M. Goldwater Air Force Range, and Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge into the Sonoran Desert National Park. Advocates support opening the unused part of the military range to the public.

Road rage: our highways have become killing fields for wildlife

Issues concerning the amount of wildlife killed by automobile traffic on a 45-mile stretch of road adjacent to a national park near Tucson, AZ, are examined, focusing on research that concludes at least 22,000 animals are killed a year, including 6,000 amphibians, 7,000 lizards, 1,350 snakes, 1,400 birds, and 6,000 mammals.
