Role of Bax and Bak in mitochondrial morphogenesis
Article Abstract:
A study was conducted to show that healthy cells Bax and Bak which are two members of Bcl-2 family proteins are required for normal fusion of mitochondria into elongated tubules. The results show that Bax and Bak regulate mitochondrial dynamics in healthy cells and indicate that Bcl-2 family members might also regulate apoptosis through organelle morphogenesis machineries.

Mitochondria shape up
Article Abstract:
A study report shows that the proteins Bax and Bak regulate the fusion and fission of mitochondria by activating Mfn2 and inhibiting Drp1. This study improves the understanding not only of the regulation of mitochondrial morphogenesis, but also of the apoptotic function of Bcl-2 proteins.

DRP-1-mediated mitochondrial fragmentation during EGL-1-induced cell death in C. elegans
Article Abstract:
The mitochondria fragmentation in cells that normally undergo programmed cell death during Caenorhabdits elegans (C. elegans) development is shown. The results assign an important role to mitochondria in the cell-death pathway in C. elegans.
