Two pathways converge at CED-10 to mediate actin rearrangement and corpse removal in C. elegans
Article Abstract:
The proteins CED-1, CED-6, and CED-7 are required for actin reorganization around the apoptotic cell corpse, and that CED-1 and CED-6 colocalize with each other and with actin around the dead cell. It is also found that the CED-10(Rac) GTPase acts genetically downstream of these proteins to mediate corpse removal, functionally linking the two engulfment pathways and identifying the CED-1, -6 and -7 signaling module as upstream regulators of Rac activation.

Hox genes misled by local environments
Article Abstract:
Experiments conducted by D. Cowing and C. Kenyon suggest that Hox genes may be expressed according to position as well as according to cell lineage. However, an alternative and less radical explanation is offered based on their results. The alternative interpretation is that the newly induced V6 cells, which expressed mab-5 despite being positioned anteriorly, were in fact in a posterior environment.

Binary specification of the embryonic lineage in Caenorhabditis elegans
Article Abstract:
Genetic research demonstrates that the gene lit-1 is crucial to the development of asymmetrical cell division during embryogenesis in the organism Caenorhabditis elegans. Evidence indicates that lit-1 gene expression causes some cells to undergo binary diversification. It seems to be vital in EMS, AB, MS and C lineage developments. Lineage analysis of lit-1 embryos is shown.
