Role of the NF-ATc transcription factor in morphogenesis of cardiac valves and septum
Article Abstract:
Mice with a disruption in the NF-ATc gene do not develop normal cardiac valves and septa and die of circulatory failure. It is suggested that the Ca(super2+)/calcineurin/NF-ATc signalling pathway is critical for normal cardiac valve and septum morphogenesis. NF-ATc and its regulatory pathways may be candidates for genetic defects underlying congenital human heart disease.

T-cell co-stimulation through B7RP-1 and ICOS
Article Abstract:
It has been possible to establish the human protein ICOS and the ligand B7-related protein-1 (B7RP-1) as a receptor-ligand pair able to undertake extensive co-stimulatory activity in vitro and in vivo. This pair has structural links with CD28-B7 and participates in the adaptive immune response. It was found that the interaction between ICOS and B7RP-1 is specific and separate from that taking place between CD28 and B7.
