Sampling and information acquisition by western scrub-jays, Aphelocoma californica
Article Abstract:
The acquisition of food weight information was examined in western scrub-jays, Aphelocoma californica, by presenting habituated birds with options on single food items. The food items utilized were unshelled peanuts with varying sizes. The birds scanned the peanuts before choosing one or handling both. These birds prefer heavier peanuts and handling both choices increased the probability of picking the heavier peanut.

A re-evaluation of hotspot settlement in lekking sage grouse
Article Abstract:
Male settlements effect the female traffic hotspots in case of sage grouse, Centrocercus urophasianus. Leks are preferentially located in areas where females travel before mating. Local nest densities effect the lek size. The male population increases with increase in female range size and decrease in female density. The pre-nesting behavior of the female plays an important role in influencing the male dispersion.

Long-range visibility of greater sage grouse leks: a GIS-based analysis
Article Abstract:
The male greater sage grouse select lek locations on the basis of topographic features that affect their visibility to both conspecific females and a major avian predator is investigated. The locations of displaying males at all leks in a local population is mapped and a geographic Information System (GIS) and digital elevation model (DEM) is used to generate 'viewsheds' around male locations within a boundary.
