Scat dogs: Man's best friend sniffs out endangered feces
Article Abstract:
Dogs can be relied upon to serve, detect, protect, and hunt and to assist in medical diagnosis, such as in sniffing out cancer cells. Wildlife Conservation Society's Carnivore Connectivity Project's scientists use scat detector dogs to determine population densities and movement patterns of four species of mega fauna, mountain lions, wolves, black bears and grizzlies.

The reintroduction of wolves to Yellowstone promises to influence cougar and grizzly populations and WCS biologists track big cats in Yellowstone and share their data with other scientists, who are tracking wolves and grizzlies. Grizzly bears play an important role in the Yellowstone ecosystem.
