Second-order fear conditioning prevented by blocking NMDA receptors in amygdala
Article Abstract:
Research into the acquisition of second-order fear conditioning has focused on the N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-receptor AP5. It was found that intra-amygdala AP5 boosts expression of conditioned fear to the conditioned stimulus which provides the reinforcement signal for second-order conditioning. It seems likely that NMDA receptors play a role in the basolateral amygdala in fear conditioning based on two forms of learning. The basolateral amygdala appears to be vital for learning which involves a reinforcer with conditioned motivational value.

A second class of chemosensory receptors in the olfactory epithelium
Article Abstract:
The discovery of a second family of receptors in the mouse olfactory epithelium is reported. Trace amine-associated receptors (TAARs) are expressed in unique subsets of neurons dispersed in the epithelium and their evolutionary conservation has suggested a chemosensory function distinct from odorant receptors and a function associated with the detection of social cues.

Receptors and transduction in taste
Article Abstract:
Significant research effort is being devoted to identifying the receptors and other important molecules of transduction within taste receptor cells. It is likely that taste-driven processing in the brain will become an issue of considerable interest.
