Self-cooling of a micomirror by radiation pressure
Article Abstract:
The observation of self-cooling of a micromirror by radiation pressure inside a high-finesse optical cavity is described. The cooling of mechanical oscillators is an important requirement for many open problems of modern physics and in this experiment changes in intensity in a detuned cavity provide the mechanism for entropy flow from the mirror's oscillatory motion to the low-entropy cavity field and this will permit cooling ratios beyond 1000.

Sub-Kelvin optical cooling of a micromechanical resonator
Article Abstract:
Active optical feedback cooling of a micromechanical resonator integrated with a high-quality optical resonator using only radiation pressure from room temperature to 135mK is demonstrated. It is also shown that this cooling method could be used in addition to traditional cryogenics to reach much lower temperatures near the ground state of a kHz oscillator.

Cooling a nanomechanical resonator with quantum back-action
Article Abstract:
The computations of the back-action of a superconducting single-electron transistor (SSET) on a radio-frequency nanomechanical resonator are presented. The use of these back-action effects are anticipated to prepare ultracold and quantum states of mechanical structures, which would not be accessible with existing technology.
