Sensitivity to leptin and susceptibility to seizures of mice lacking neuropeptide Y
Article Abstract:
Neuropeptide Y (NPY) deficient mice show sensitivity to leptin and are vulnerable to mild seizures induced by an antagonist of gamma-aminobutyric acid. The NPY deficient mice have a normal body weight and food intake. They show greater weight loss and decrease in feeding in response to recombinant leptins than control mice. The observations indicate that NPY is not an essential stimulator for some leptin actions and feeding responses but is necessary for controling excitability in the central nervous system.

Leptin-regulated endocannabinoids are involved in maintaining food intake
Article Abstract:
Research is presented concerning the influence of endocannabinoids in the upregulation of anorexigenic neuropeptides and the downregulation of orexigenic factors. The role of leptin in regulating the process is discussed.

A hunger for cannabinoids
Article Abstract:
Issues are presented concerning the appetite stimulating properties of cannabinoids which are found naturally in cannabis and in the body. The interaction of cannabinoids with the hormone leptin is discussed.
