Serious flaws in UK funding system
Article Abstract:
Linda M. Castell of Oxford University's Department of Biochemistry, responding to an article by Wenneras and Wold on nepotism practiced by funding bodies, agrees that the UK's scientific funding system has serious flaws. She cites her own application to a major funding body and the unsatisfactory replies she received in answer to her criticism that the application was dealt with in a careless way.

In the name of love? By defining ideas precisely, as science does, fiction would deny its readers freedom of interpretation
Article Abstract:
A key distinction between the work of physicists and novelists, and between art and science in general, is that scientists try to name things, while art tries to avoid precise definitions. Novelists often deal with emotions, such as love, for which there are many different interpretations. In contrast, scientists take a reductionist and reasoned approach.

Venture funding for new ideas: explanations for anomalies should be sought with an open mind
Article Abstract:
