Signalling downstream of activated mammalian Notch
Article Abstract:
The activated forms of the mammalian Notch gene pair with the human analog of the suppressor of hairless gene to act as transcriptional activators of the hairy enhancer split promoter gene. The Notch gene is a member of the transmembrane proteins that are found to be occurring in many species. The Notch gene probably plays a role in deciding the fates of cells and is conserved. The suppressor of the hairless gene from Drosophila and the enhancer of split genes complex are involved in the Notch signaling pathway.

Heritability of a sexually selected character expressed in both sexes
Article Abstract:
The measurement of parent offspring correlations in seaweed flies reveals that the preferred character in these flies exhibits significant additive genetic variance in males. No such variance is observed in females. The chromosomal inversion system causes this variance in character of the males, apart from the variations it produces on larval viability. The character variance is utilized by the females of the species for selection.

Heritabilities and paradigm shifts
Article Abstract:
Observed chronological changes in heritability estimates seem to provide support for Kuhn's position that scientific activities are marked by occasional dramatic paradigm shifts. In the case of studies on female choice of ornamented males, it is proposed that the changing heritabilities of ornaments can be attributed to publication biases rather than to any evolution in the features of the organisms under study.
