Silencing of microRNAs in vivo with 'antagomirs'
Article Abstract:
MicroRNAs(miRNAs) are an abundant class of non coding RNAs that are believed to be important in many biological processes through regulation of gene expression and it is showed that a novel class of chemically engineered oligonucleotides termed 'antagomirs' are efficient and specific silencers of endogenous miRNAs in mice. The silencing of endogenous miRNAs by this novel method is specific, efficient and longlasting and the findings show that antagomirs are powerful tools to silence specific miRNAs in vivo and may represent a therapeutic strategy for silencing miRNAs in disease.

A pancreatic islet-specific microRNA regulates insulin secretion
Article Abstract:
The role of miRNAs in pancreatic endocrine cells is studied by cloning and identifying a novel, evolutionarily conserved and islet-specific miRNA (miR)-375. It is shown that overexpression of miR-375 suppressed glucose-induced insulin secretion, and conversely, inhibition of endogenous miR-375 function enhanced insulin secretion.

A novel class of small RNAs bind to MILI protein in mouse testes
Article Abstract:
A new class of small RNAs that bind to MILI in mouse male germ cells, where they accumulate at the onset of meiosis, is described. The identification of the new class, referred to as 'Piwi-interacting RNAs', provides an important base to determine the molecular function of Piwi proteins in mammalian spermatogenesis.
