Paternity in horseshoe crabs when spawning in multiple-male groups
Article Abstract:
An observation of the clustering behavior of unpaired male horseshoe crabs around a nesting pair shows that the satellite males are highly successful at fertilizing eggs.

Size dimorphism and the mating system in horseshoe crabs, Limulus polyphemusL
Article Abstract:
A study on the relationship between sexual size dimorphism and mating success of horseshoe crabs was conducted. The results indicated that mating seemed to be random with regard to body size. Amplexed and suitor males possessed the same size and weight and showed no proof of male-male interactions resulting in displacement. Mated pairs appeared stable and did not manifest any tendency toward assortative mating. Larger females did not show any tendency to attract more or larger suitor males.

Age-biased stranding and righting in male horseshoe crabs, Limulus polyphemus
Article Abstract:
Two interacting factors are responsible for stranding, mating tactic and righting capacity in male horseshoe crabs. Unattached males are more likely to strand than attached males, and unattached males are on the whole older than attached males. Older crabs are more unlikely to right themselves than younger ones if it overturns once. The older are more likely to strand due to senescence and parasitism. Many horseshoe crabs are possibly stranded during spawning.
