Push or pull: an experimental study on imitation in marmosets
Article Abstract:
An experimental study was conducted on response learning through observation in Callithrix jacchus. Marmosets were shown two methods for obtaining food stored in a wooden box. The responses of the marmosets who observed the demonstration were then compared with those of naive control subjects. Exploratory behavior was found to be more pronounced in control subjects. Results indicate that conspecific observation can be used to teach simple motor skills to marmosets.
