'Culture' in quail: social influences on mate choices of female Coturnix japnica
Article Abstract:
Research into mate choices of female Japanese quail, Coturnix japonica, is presented. A female quail that has seen a conspecific male mating subsequently demonstrates a raised tendency to affiliate with that male and with other males with the same characteristics.

Mate-choice copying in Japanese quail, Coturnix coturnix japonica
Article Abstract:
Research was conducted to study the effects on the mate choices of female Japanese quail, Coturnix coturnix japonica, of observing a male mate with another female. The study was conducted in a painted plywood enclosure characterized by a Plexiglas roof and front wall. A television camera was also utilized to observe all behavior occurring within the enclosure. Results showed that watching mating did not alter females' options for choosing males.

Social effects on mate choices of male Japanese quail, Coturnix japonica
Article Abstract:
Experiments suggest that the mate choices of female Japanese quail are influenced by the behaviour of conspecific females. A series of four experiments investigates the effects of conspecific female mate choices on focal male Japanese quails. The study concludes that male quails tend to shun areas where courting pairs have recently mated, as well as particular females they have seen courted by other males.
