Auditory collusion and a coupled couple of outer hair cells
Article Abstract:
Basilar membrane tuning is known to account for neural tuning, and sharpening of the passive travelling wave relies on the activity of outer hair cells (OHCs). An electrical correlate of OHC mechanical activity, the motility-related gating current, has been used to study mechano-electrical interactions in adjacent OHCs. Motility due to voltage stimulation of one cell leads to gating currents in adjacent OHCs, and the resulting polarization in adjacent cells is opposite to that in the stimulate cell.

Trans-gender induction of hair follicles: Human follicle cells can be induced to grow in an incompatible host of the other sex
Article Abstract:
Adult hair growth and hair follicle regeneration are fuelled by regulated interactions between dermal and epidermal tissue. It is now shown that transplantation of human follicle dermal sheath tissue between incompatible individuals of different sex, can result in the formation of new hair follicles, without being rejected.
