Dr. James B. Neel's extension educational programs at the University of Tennessee have a major impact on the efficiency of cow and calf production which result in increased income to his state's beef industry. He has also led two programs, 'Catch Four,' which emphasized the importance of cattle handling facilities, and 'Add 300,' which deals with backgrounding of calves. Neel has contributed articles to professional journals and edited extension publications. He has also conducted numerous seminars, workshops, management schools, and backgrounding demonstrations.

Western Section ASAS 1992 Extension Award
Article Abstract:
Doctor Douglas L. Hixon has been awarded the 1992 Western section American Society of Animal Science (ASAS) Extension Award. Working with community extension workers, Doctor Hixon has developed several programs to disseminate latest research knowledge related to beef cattle management. He has been involved in setting up of the Wyoming Beef Cattle Improvement Association, which is playing an important role in supporting activities related to cattle rearing and management in the area.

Jim Barmore completed his B.S. degrees in Dairy Science and Meat & Animal Science in 1981 from the University of Wisconsin with honors. His master's degree in calf nutrition in the same university was under the guidance of Dr. Neal Jorgensen in 1983. Barmore joined Vita Plus Corp. in 1986 as the Ruminant Products Manager. He became Dairy Technical Services Manager in 1991. The growth of Vita Plus's dairy program has been under his leadership.
