Breast may well be best
Article Abstract:
Drinking cows' milk may trigger autoimmune diabetes mellitus through an immune response that destroys the insulin-secreting pancreatic beta-cells. J. Karjalainen and colleagues put forward this hypothesis after observing that levels of the cows' milk constituent bovine serum albumin were higher in patients who had recently become diabetic. Several difficulties with this hypothesis, such as whether the beta-cell surface protein p69 produces a pathogenic reaction, will have to be investigated before this explanation of diabetic immunology can be accepted.
