Spatial distribution of ungulate responses to habitat factors in Wandashan forest region, northeastern China
Article Abstract:
Human activities such as deforestation modify the environment and result in altering the spatial structure of vertebrate populations causing considerable loss of biodiversity. The spatial distribution of the sympatric ungulates red deer (Cervus elaphus xanthopygus), roe deer (Capreolus pygargus bedfordi) and wild boar (Sus scrofa ussuricus) was quantified among spatial elements in the Wandashan region in China to provide information on the effect of forest management practices.

Old dog, new tricks: Innovations with presence-absence information
Article Abstract:
Presence-absence information for assessing temporal and spatial characteristics of animal population are important as presence is straightforward and absence could indicate either true absence of a species was actually present and not detected. The use of time and experimentation would help learn the best way to use the new approach as one of the best possible ways to expand the knowledge of animal populations, though various explanations regarding the same are available.

Likelihood cross-validation versus least squares cross-validation for choosing the smoothing parameter in kernel home-range analysis
Article Abstract:
Computer simulations were used to compare estimated home ranges using fixed kernel density with cross-validation (CVh) and least squares cross-validation (LSCVh) to true underlying distributions. Results found two important problems related to computation of kernel home-range estimates, including multiple minima in the LSCVh and CVh functions and discrepancies among estimates from home-range software.
