Spectrally resolved eclipse maps of the accretion disk in Ursae Majoris
Article Abstract:
The shape of the light curves from an eclypsing cataclysmic variable, the UX Ursae Majoris, was used to recoctruct the spectral energy distribution across the face of an accretion disk. Accretion disks are important in astrophysical environents such as protostellar systems, active galactic nuclei, X-ray binaries and cataclysmic variables. However, the lack of spatially resolved data has constrained theoretical models for accretion disks. Reconstructions of accretion-disk spectra could help bridge the gap between theoretical models and observations.

Hard x-rays from accretion disk boundary layers
Article Abstract:
Accretion disks are present in astrophysical objects such as newly formed stars, quasars and other active galactic nuclei. The interface between the disk and accreting objects known as the boundary layer is a significant feature of accretion disks since it is here where up to 50% of accretion luminosity is freed. Numerical solutions of a model composed of thin accretion disks surrounding a central white dwarf are presented. A self-consistent description of the boundary layer is also included in the discussion.

Sparks of interest
Article Abstract:
Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*), a super massive black hole is studied extensively at long and short wavelengths by the detection of radio and millimeter wavelength radiation from it. Sgr A* is extremely dim radiating at only a Sagittarius A* (Sgr A*), a super massive black hole billionth of the Eddington limit for its mass.
