Animals in behavioural research
Article Abstract:
Increasing controversies in the use of animals in scientific research may be appropriately addressed by ethological researchers. Ethologists are in the best position to explain the benefits of their research to various animal rights groups since they are more aware of animal behaviour. The public must also be informed on how scientific experiments are conducted. Ethologists should also contribute to discussions on animal welfare issues and be able to question their colleagues on the validity of their research.

Assessment of pain in animals
Article Abstract:
Pain in animals is difficult to discern since they may not exhibit the same behavior as humans. Humans must be always aware that animals are capable of pain since animals have sensitive receptors and brain structures that are analogous to that of humans. However, humans must also be able to empathize with the animals so they may be conscious of the probable pain and injury they may inflict.
