Sperm protection and mate assessment in the bushcricket Coptaspis sp. 2
Article Abstract:
Lengthy copulations in the bushcricket Coptaspis sp. 2 were studied to elucidate their mate assessment and sperm protection functions. Results of the experimental manipulation of the spermatophore attachment duration demonstrated that the latter is linked to the quantity of transferred sperm, thereby indicating that the purpose of copulation duration is to guarantee that the transfer of the male's ejaculate is consummated. Compared to virgin females, copulation of males with nonvirgins is longer.

Male age, mating status and nuptial gift quality in a bushcricket
Article Abstract:
The effects of male age and male history on male reproductive investment are examined. It is concluded that the female E. ephippiger probably prefer the songs of younger males because this preference correlates with male mating history.
