Swedish institute sued for software piracy
Article Abstract:
The government-owned Karolinska Institute in Stockholm is facing software piracy allegations from the country's software vendor, Eurodex. Raids at the institute premises have uncovered several illegal copies of a statistics and graphics package called StatView. A Swedish law that prohibits prosecution without identifying the guilty individuals has slowed down police investigations. This delay has impelled Eurodex to go in for civil action. Significantly, the high price of software has boosted the incidence of piracy.
