Temporal extrapolation of PVA results in relation to the IUCN red list criterion E
Article Abstract:
The World Conservation Union (IUCN) Red List categorizes the species that are critically endangered, endangered and vulnerable into a set of five criteria (A-E). The criterion E is quantitatively defined by three specified threshold extinction risks (50%, 20%, 10%), each associated with a particular time frame. It is suggested that the guidelines to the IUCN Red List criteria must include three reference lines for the interpretation of the Population Viability Analysis (PVA) results.

Fire and vegetation in a temperate peat bog: implications for the management of threatened species
Article Abstract:
The effects of fire on the vegetation of a New Zealand pet bog is investigated through analysis of microclimate patterns, vegetation change and peat stratigraphy. The effects of fire on critically endangered plant species like Corybas carsei are studied and it is concluded that disturbances such as fire are important for maintaining plant communities like peat bogs.

Changes in Forest Use Value through Ecological Succession and Their Implications for Land Management in the Peruvian Amazon
Article Abstract:
Three secondary forest age classes were valued according to daily use by Peruvian communities and calculated into dollars per hectare: old secondary forest, young secondary forest, and fallow fields. Land-use strategies balancing biodiversity conservation, agricultural productivity, and forest product use can be drawn from these calculations.
