The DCC gene product induces apoptosis by a mechanism requiring receptor proteolysis
Article Abstract:
Colonic carcinoma development is linked with the mutation of certain gene sets, including deleted in colorectal cancer (DCC). It encodes a receptor for netrin-1 involved in axon guidance. DCC is shown to induce apoptosis in the absence of ligand binding, but blocks it when engaged by netrin-1. This suggests that DCC may operate as a tumour-suppressor protein through the induction of apoptosis in situations where ligand is unavailable.

A Grb2-associated docking protein in EGF- and insulin-receptor signalling
Article Abstract:
A new protein in epidermal growth factor (EGF) and insulin receptor signaling, Grb2-associated binder-1 (Gab1), unites signals from different systems. The structural characteristics and amino acids in Gab1 are similar to those in insulin-receptor substrate-1. The protein is a substrate of the EGF and insulin receptors and functions as a docking protein for many proteins that contain the SH2 domain.
