The Great Ape Project was launched by animal rights activists who believe that chimpanzees, gorillas and orangutans are close kin of humans and must be accorded similar rights. The group strives to free these animals from the indignity of confinement, use in entertainment and death from hunting.

The ultimate underdog: the battle over prairie dogs over the great plains

The campaign to place the black-tailed prairie dog under the Endangered Species Act is borne of the realization of the rodent's importance to the ecosystem. The prairie dog, whose numbers has been reduced by 98%, has been determined to be beneficial to over 150 vertebrate species.
