The evolutionary inheritance of elemental stoichiometry in marine phytoplankton
Article Abstract:
Results suggest that systemic phylogenetic differences exist between the green- and red plastid superfamilies of phytoplankton. Data indicate that while macronutrient stoichiometries resemble the ancestral pre-symbiotic host cell phenotypes, the trace element composition differences are aquired by the plastid superfamilies.
