The fossil Ainiktozoon is an arthropod
Article Abstract:
The fossil Ainiktozoon loganense was discovered in the late 19th century. The fossils can be found throughout the Jamoytius Horizon region as laterally flattened compressions on bedding planes of compacted laminated siltstones. Recent analyses indicate that Ainiktozoon is an arthropod and not a protochordate. Ainiktozoon has an anterior carapace covering a segmented body with eight biramous, paddle-like limbs and short, terminal, caudal rami at its posterior end.
