Tunisian-born geologist Maurice Taieb, known for his exploration of the remote region of eastern Ethiopia, laid the foundation for the discovery of Lucy, the most famous fossil human ancestor. A report on a nearly complete skeleton of a three-year-old Australopithecus afarensis discovered from the newly explored sediments just south of the Lucy site, Zeresenay Alemseged, is presented.
