'The human genome itself must be freely available to all humankind.'
Article Abstract:
It is vital to give close attention to achieving an appropriate balance between public and commercial interests with regard to the sequence of the human genome. Establishing the sequence of the genome provides basic information, giving scientists all the instructions required for making the around 50,000 proteins in the human body. However, there is still much work to be done. This will need the commitment of both the private and public sectors for many years to come. In view of the great potential of the human genome sequence, the granting of general monopoly patent rights to any element of it should only arise when new inventions are likely to bring benefits of comparable importance for humankind.

Microtubule nucleation by gamma-tubulin-containing rings in the centrosome
Article Abstract:
The pericentriolar material (PCM) is a complex collection of proteins mediating microtubule nucleation in the cystoskeleton of animal cells. It contains tubulins and the gamma-tubulin, which is localized in ring structures n sites containing purified centrosomes without microtubules. The gamma-tubulin is localized at the minus ends of microtubules when nucleation is initiated by the purified centrosomes.

Crystal structure of a zinc-finger-RNA complex reveals two modes of molecular
Article Abstract:
The crystal structures of the central regions of the three-finger transcription factor TFIIIA-5S RNA complex with 61 RNA bases reveal two types of zinc-finger binding, which differ from that found in the regular DNA. Data indicate that zinc-finger proteins interact with the double-helix backbone and recognize bases.
