Male wrens with large testes breed early
Article Abstract:
A study of nest building by male wrens shows that those with large testes breed early. It is suggested that the varied start in courtship activity may be influenced by the rate of testicular recrudescence.

Social stimulation and regulation of body mass in female starlings
Article Abstract:
Female European starlings develop differently according to whether they have contact with partners. Birds kept visually isolated from partners or able to view a partner with no physical contact increased body mass less than birds with total contact with a partner. The birds' gonadal development was not affected by separation. Lean mass changes led to the difference in body mass, not energetic reserves. The social environment thus appears to affect lean mass regulation.

The influence of habitat and male morphology on a mate-choice cue: the display nests of wrens
Article Abstract:
Male wrens build display nests in order to attract mates. Those which build more display nests are more likely to attract females than wrens who build fewer nests. Such nests must contain information that will influence the female's choice. Observations of a study site in Oxfordshire, England, show that the nests that male wrens build contain information primarily about the habitat's characteristics rather than the builder's attributes. Details of the study are presented.
