The mystery companion
Article Abstract:
A jet-like flow of material, located in the vicinity of a dying star, supported the model in which such jets shape the gas cloud around the star into a bipolar nebula. Most planetary nebulae have bipolar structures, rather than the spherical shape that would be the natural result of their formation from an even stream of gas emission by a red giant.

A magnetically collimated jet from an evolved star
Article Abstract:
Measurements of the polarization of water vapor masers that trace the precessing jet originating from the asymptotic giant branch star W43A which is undergoing rapid evolution into planetary nebula are described. It is concluded from the data that the magnetic field is the dominant source of jet-collimation in evolved stars.
