The nature of plant species
Article Abstract:
The phenetic and crossing relationships in over 400 genera of plants and animals are analysed. It is shown that although discrete phenotypic clusters exist in most genera, the correspondence of taxonomic species to these clusters is poor and no different between plants and animals, but crossability data indicate that most taxonomic species and phenotypic clusters in plants correspond to reproductively independent lineages.

Pack-MULE transposable elements mediate gene evolution in plants
Article Abstract:
There are over 3000 Pack-MULEs in rice containing fragments derived from more than 1000 cellular genes. Pack-MULEs frequently contain fragments from multiple chromosomal loci that are fused to form new opera reading frames, some of which are expressed as chimaeric transcripts.
