Clues to galaxy formation
Article Abstract:
Over one third of the sky contains compact clumps of neutral hydrogen, and such high velocity clouds (HVCs) have been the subject of speculation since their discovery in 1963. Blitz and colleagues have argued that the HVCs remaining after the fall of a large fraction along the Magellanic Stream, reflect the gravity field of the Local Group and not our Galaxy. This concept unites previously shelved ideas and observations.

Galaxy disruption as the origin of intracluster light in the Coma cluster of galaxies
Article Abstract:
It is well established that a faint background of starlight in the core of the Coma cluster exists, but its origin is uncertain. Three large, low-surface-brightness features have been discovered in the Coma cluster, one of which is a plume-like structure. The structures are likely to disperse, thus enhancing background light. It is argued that most intracluster light is due to a steady accumulation of tidal debris.
