The show goes on
Article Abstract:
CERN, the centre for particle physics in Europe is involved with the experiments related to the subatomic world and is concerned with developing sophisticated machines that will help in determining the fundamental truths about the Universe. In future, CERN will concentrate on the design for sub-TeV machine and its construction, study the various aspects of Compact Linear Collider (CLC) and take an active part in the development of machines, irrespective of their location.

Atom waves in passing
Article Abstract:
Matter-wave interferometers are unique tools for exposing particles acting like waves and they can even be used to measure the shift in phase of an atom as it flies past, and interacts with, a surface. Researchers John Perreault and Alexander Cronin have used a Mach-Zehnder inferometer and have determined the phase shift caused by the van der Waals interactions between an atom and a surface.

The making of a standard model
Article Abstract:
A standard model of particle physics gives a detailed explanation of all the subatomic particles and forces in the form of various principles and equations. Despite of being extremely advantageous, the model is found to b slightly problematic, as the huge differences in scale causes some problem.
