The structural basis of specific base-excision repair by uracil-DNA glycosylase
Article Abstract:
A structural study of uracil-DNA glycosylase (UDGases) indicates that DNA base exclusion and binding interactions of uracil lead to the specific base-excision repair by UDGases. Base-excision proceeds through a catalytic pathway, as revealed by the presence of conserved residues near the uracil binding site. DNA-binding site determination and uracil identification in DNA are facilitated by complexes with a trideoxynucleotide and uracil.
