The use of prickly pear cactus as nesting cover by northern bobwhites
Article Abstract:
Nest location data are presented for northern bobwhite populations in Texas. Of the 81 nests studied, 58% were in bunchgrass, 30% were in prickly pear, and 12% were in shrubs. Findings do not support the study's limited-bunchgrass hypothesis and only partially support the nest-protection hypothesis.

An evaluation of survey methods for estimation northern bobwhite abundance in southern Texas
Article Abstract:
The evaluation of survey methods for estimating northern bobwhite abundance in southern Texas recommend Helicopter transects as a viable alternative to walked transects for estimating density of bobwhites, especially when densities are low and walked transects are impractical.

Identifying predators and nest fates of bobwhites in southern Texas
Article Abstract:
Ground-nesting gamebirds like the northern bobwhite face the problem of predation, which is a major cause of nest failure and adult mortality. A study conducted using infrared video surveillance of nests revealed that bobwhite nest-predator communities differ regionally.
