Theory predicts the uneven distribution of genetic diversity within species
Article Abstract:
The conservation of genetic diversity within an individual species is an important factor in its survival in the face of environmental changes and disease. It is shown that diversity within species is also distributed unevenly. It is implied that diversity loss owing to severe extinction events is high, and focusing conservation efforts on highly distinctive groups can save much of the diversity.

Species diversity can drive speciation
Article Abstract:
The data for plants and arthropods of the volcanic archipelagos of the Canary and Hawaiian Islands is used to address whether there is a positive relationship between species diversity and rate of diversification. It is found that even after controlling for several important physical features of islands, diversification is strongly related to species number.

Adaptation under a microscope
Article Abstract:
Experiments with microorganisms are helping scientists understand more about their adaptive radiation through evolution or immigration and predation. This knowledge can be applied to understand adaptive radiation and global patterns of biodiversity in larger organisms.
